One of the major operational and environmental issues facing kraft pulp mills is the odor produced by the kraft pulping process. Various byproducts of the kraft process include hydrogen sulfide, methyl mercaptan, dimethyl sulfide, dimethyl disulfide, and other volatile sulfur compounds that are the cause of highly toxic, malodorous air emissions. These odors are emitted as consequence of the use of sulphur compounds. The four main reduced sulphur compounds, known collectively as TRS, have an unpleasant odor and can be detected even at low levels.
Pulp mills are required to control the levels of dangerous emissions for the safety of their employees and the neighboring communities. The mills have traditionally managed these emissions by the use of harsh and caustic hazardous chemicals such as chlorine bleach and hydrogen peroxide.
MILL-FRESH and WOW-Air B28 products are designed to replace such chemical manstays such as chlorine bleach, hydrogen peroxide. These non-toxic products eliminate hydrogen sulfide and mercaptan gases and enhance the performance of beneficial waste digesting bacteria. As an additional benefit, the products are proven corrosion inhibitors that will substantially extend the life of plant equipment.

Safety
Solutions are GRAS certified, enzyme free, and non-toxic. These solutions are so safe that they don’t require special handling requirements under OSHA or DOT guidelines.
Toxicity
The products line is synthesized from ingredients which are safe for use in food and food adjutants. Aquatic toxicity is very low; LC-50/96 for juvenile rainbow trout is more than 1,000 ppm at use levels (concentrate levels vary).
Corrosivity
Solutions are isotonic balanced with the pH of concrete. They are not corrosive to wastewater piping systems and, due to the H2S removal, the corrosion to the system and infrastructure is abated.
Biodegradation
The product line is biodegradable under anaerobic conditions with methane, carbon dioxide, and water. This virtually prevents the formation of solids, salts producing EC (Electrical Conductivity), or nitrates.
Application
Very simple and does not require plant shutdowns. No special equipment or storage tanks are needed.
