Anaerobic digestion is a biological process that allows acidogenic bacteria to perform volatile acid fermentation and methanogenic bacteria to perform the methane formation step. This combination of these biological processes convert organic matter into methane and carbon dioxide, a mixture called biogas. This process occurs in the absence of air and is widely used for treating wastewater solids.
This process can be performed in a single stage anaerobic digestion process that occurs in a single tank or in a multi-stage process where the volatile acid fermentation (acid/gas phase) is physically separated from the methane gas formation phase. The multi-stage process allows the optimization of the heat, pH balance and input rates during the various stages of the anaerobic digestion process to meet the needs of the facility.
The products are designed to replace such chemical mainstays such as chlorine, hydrogen peroxide and calcium nitrate, ferric chloride and ferrous sulfate. The non-toxic products eliminate hydrogen sulfide and mercaptan gases, enhance the performance of waste digesting bacteria, prevent fat oil and grease build up and reduce sludge output.
